Indignation unfurlled
Indignation unfurlled
Today, more than anything, I am enraged—completely and utterly filled with what I believe to be righteous indignation at the state of this country. Today was Trump’s inauguration, and during it, he announced a flurry of executive orders that will drastically affect countless lives, both here and abroad.
The one that really sticks in my craw is this:

I am filled with unbridled anger. I called this. I said this was coming. And yet, I was dismissed, told I was being hyperbolic. But this? This is just the beginning. There will be more attacks—more policies aimed at harming Trans people and anyone who doesn’t fit into the cookie-cutter, heteronormative hellscape this administration is hell-bent on imposing on all of us.
And you know what really fucking enrages me? The cis gay men and lesbians who voted for this piece of shit—fully aware they were throwing their Trans and non-binary siblings under the bus. And just as much, I am enraged at my Trans and non-binary siblings who voted for this garbage heap because they thought, “I’m one of the good ones; they won’t come for me.” Newsflash: they absolutely fucking will.
But my anger doesn’t stop there. Oh no. It’s also aimed squarely at the so-called “allies” who claim to “love” their LGBTQ friends and family but voted for a man who is openly and unapologetically against every single one of those friends and family members. You have blood on your hands now. You rainbow capitalists who suddenly “care” every June, buying your little rainbow merchandise and patting yourselves on the back like, “Look at me, I’m so supportive!”No, you’re not. Your “support” is performative. When given the chance to actually stand by us, you threw us to the wolves and voted for the Orange Dotard.
And it’s not just the LGBTQ community that’s taking a hit today. Let us not forget our brothers and sisters who came to this country looking for a better life—from a list of “wrong” countries or with skin just a shade too dark for the mayonnaise-complected ruling class. People whose only “crime” was being born on the wrong patch of dirt. People fleeing horrific conditions in their home countries, conditions that are often the direct result of the fucked-up policies of the United States. They came seeking a better life, the very opportunity this country claims to offer to the tired, huddled masses of the world.
Their lives, too, hang in the balance. And this is only the opening salvo. There will be more blows—more cruelty, more policies designed to oppress—coming in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Blows that many of us on the Left have been screaming about for ages, warning anyone who’d listen. But the establishment Democrats and the right-wing cultists just scoffed, insisting this wouldn’t happen.
Well, here we are. And it’s happening. And at what cost?
